What is a Confirmation Statement?
Every year a company must file a confirmation statement this includes if your company is not trading or dormant.
When it is time to file the confirmation statement you will receive a letter from Companies House to inform you it is time to file the statement again, if you signed up for online filing and have chosen to get email reminders you will still get a reminder but it will be sent to the email address nominated.
You will need to check that the details that Companies House holds about your company is correct before you file the statement, if it is not you must update to ensure that the records that Companies House hold about your company are correct and up to date.
You should make changes to update the address of the company, the company directors and the major shareholders in your company also called persons with significant control to ensure that all these details are correct.
You can then file the Confirmation Statement, this can be done online or by using the paper form CS01 that you can download from the Companies House website.
To file online you will need to register with Companies House for online filing and have the secure code for filing online called the Company’s Authentication Code. You will have received this from Companies House when your company was formed, and it is important to keep it safe.
It is important that you file the company’s confirmation statement each year, if you do not file it on time Companies House can start the process to close your company and if you have any money in the company bank account that will be sent to the Government under the Bona Vacantia Rules.
Therefore, it is something that you cannot ignore, and it is important to make sure that it is filed each year by yourself or your accountant.
