I’m not getting the help I need from my accountant
Whenever you speak to your accountant do you always feel that something is missing? That you are not getting the help that you need from them? That you are trapped in a cycle of not knowing what you are doing or where your business is?
You are thinking:
“ I’m paying them for everything – my accounts, taxes, payroll and self-assessment. They do everything but something is missing. I just don’t know.

I don’t understand anything about my finances?
Obviously, you’re not an accountant: you’re a creative designer, you have imagination and you can create and design amazing things. But sheets and sheets of numbers mean nothing to you. Nobody in your team knows these numbers. The only person who does is your accountants who is absent for most of the year.
You need help with taxes you need to know if there are any creative tax reliefs that you can make use of, if there are ways of saving money and making the most of what you are earning.
Essentially you don’t know what to do and you don’t know where to turn for help and advice. You feel that your accountant is letting you down.
I only speak to them once a year!
The only respite in this is when they come around each year to do the accounts, you have a couple of hours with them that you can ask them questions, get help and advice and actually see where your agencies finances are and what you should do to move it forward and grow.
They only downside to that is when they come over they always want paying, you pay for their time and everything is on the clock!
This can put you in a position where you have a toxic relationship with your accountant. You are relieved that they take care of all the things that they do, all the filings and all the technical tax stuff when they do your year end work. But they leave a lot of your needs unfilled during the year and the support that you need to grow and make your business successful is lacking.
Because of this, my business is not growing
All of this leaves you in a position of feeling frustrated. Your business is not growing because you are not really getting the support that you need. But there is a reluctance to do anything about it because they do the work that you need to be done.
What this may mean is that you end up working long hours trying to make your business better and to grow. You don’t earn the money that you want to or need to because you don’t know where you are or you don’t have time to focus on anything! It’s all very rushed and you feel overwhelmed with everything in your business.
