Why did you start your business?

Why we start out business very often gets lost as we start to get more involved in our business, our priorities start to change focus. Our focus becomes our business rather than the reason we wanted to start the business in the first place.

Most of the time people will start a business because they want to make a difference to the world, they see an industry and they have a belief that they can do something different or better and genuinely help people.  Perhaps they want to spend more time with family and starting a business will give them the financial means and freedom to do that.

Keep the focus

However, as you start to grow your business generally what happens is that you lose focus on the reason why you started your business and the focus becomes spending time working.  You are busy working towards deadlines for clients, dealing with suppliers, attending events and doing your books for your accountant.

The reason you started your business – time for yourself or your family – becomes lost and they are the ones to suffer if you are not spending time with them. This is not good for anyone and your personal happiness will certainly have an impact on your work and your business.

You need to prioritise your time and try to make things as easy as possible. Your business will throw problems in your direction you will not need to go looking for them.

You will need to learn to delegate work and anything that can be automated should be. You will have to get a structure to your day and set yourself a plan how you will move your business forward, breaking this plan down in to easily achievable goals. You need to have a vision of where you want to be in future and to plot your way along that journey to get to your end goal.

You need to remember why you started your business in the first place and work towards this goal.
